On November 11th, a cold wet windy day, the pre-school children from Charlton Playgroup donned their all-in-one weather suits and wellies to join the rest of the parishioners and school children to remember all the brave soldiers who have fallen during service to their country. The children had also made a large poppy to place on the village memorial and they even managed to observe the two minute silence.
Charlton Playgroup is a thriving early years centre providing care for 2-5 year olds, term time only, between the hours of 9:00am -3:00pm and offer flexible hours at an affordable rate. They are also starting a 'tots' group meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, 9:30 -11:00 for the tots under the age of 2 and their carers, The first one will begin on Wednesday 8th December, and they look forward to meeting you.
Charlton Playgroup is committee run, and relies on fundraising - next event is our Christmas Fete on SATURDAY DECEMBER 11th AT 2:30, we will have a raffle; first prize a Luxury Hamper, auction of prizes, including motor racing tickets, bottle tombola, children's tombola and lucky dip, cakes and many craft stalls. Entrance £1.00 everybody welcome! Special guest to open our fete is BUZZ LIGHTYEAR! - see you there!

This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police (MAY 2010).
Northamptonshire Police is reminding members of the public that the non-emergency telephone number to call is 03000 111 222.
The force switched to the new number, which is for all non-emergency matters, on 6 May 2009.
People can call 03000 111 222 at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The old telephone numbers have been gradually phased out to enable people to get used to the new number, and have still been connecting people to the police.
As of the end of this month however, anybody calling the old 700 700 numbers will hear an 'unobtainable' tone.
As well as non-emergency calls, people can call 03000 111 222 when they need to speak to their local Safer Community Team or to seek advice on any police matter.
People should only call 999 in an emergency, when a life is at risk or a crime is in progress.
All other calls for police assistance or advice should be made to 03000 111 222.

Karen helps Air Ambulance
Karen Boyles a former resident of the village, will be celebrating her 30th birthday, by completing a Tandem Skydive in aid of Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Date: Saturday 5th June 2010 (weather permitting) Time: 1pm - 5pm
Location of Jump: Hinton Airfield. Everyone is welcome on the day, hopefully to support Karen.

Basketball will be coming to Brackley
on 23, 24 and 25 August as part of South Northamptonshire Council’s Summer Programme of sports and arts activities. Learn new skills, practice drills and then take to the court to ‘slam-dunk’ your way to victory whilst playing games. These fun-packed sessions will be led by an experienced coach from South Northamptonshire Basketball Club and are open to boys and girls aged eight to 14 years.
Sessions will be held at Magdalen College School, Brackley from 10am to noon for eight to 10-year-olds then from 1pm to 3pm for 11 to 14 year olds. Book all three sessions for £10 or individual sessions at £4 each. For more information or to book a place please contact Emma Ralls, Assistant Sports Development Officer on 01327 322078.

£100,000 up for grabs for youth projects in South Northamptonshire
available to youth projects across the district as part of the County's Youth Opportunity Fund.
The cash is up for grabs for projects which benefit young people in the community. If you are aged between 13 and 19 and have an idea for an initiative that will benefit young people in your area, money is being offered to you to get your scheme started and to get others involved. For a shot at receiving the money, simply fill in an application form and send it in.
South Northamptonshire Youth Council will decide which initiatives should take the next step forward to receiving the funding. Successful schemes in the past include Youth Bus, Big about Music, Youth Shelters and Holiday for the Disabled.
Youth Councillor Jacob Mitchell, from Campion School, said: “'The Youth Opportunity Fund has been a great way to get lots of good things in South Northamptonshire that young people themselves have asked for. The Youth Council is looking forward to having a lot of applications to consider."
South Northamptonshire Councillor Andrew Wilby, Portfolio Holder for Community Engagement, said: “I am delighted that this funding is being made available to support and develop projects for youngsters in the area and would like to thank the members of the Youth Council for their continued work to represent the views of local, young people.”
He added, “Young people play an important role in the community and we want make sure that their needs and aspirations are met. We want to encourage their potential and get them involved and engaged with opportunities available to them in the district.”
The Youth Council aims to represent the views of young people in the district; increase their participation in positive activities and engage them with local services.
